Wygal Property

What is the Wygal Property?

In 2021 Adams Township purchased the Wygal farm from the estate of Jane Wygal. The land is southwest of the park, the driveway to the property is at the intersection of Spring Street Ext. and Hutchman Road. The property is approximately 102 acres with a farm house, barn, silo, milk house, horse stables and storage garage, as well as large fields formally used for farming and grazing of dairy cows. Jane’s vision for her property was to preserve it for the enjoyment of the residents of Adams Township for years to come. As part of the sale of the property, the Pittsburgh History and Landmark Foundation was contracted to oversee the protection of the conservation area which includes the land and the historical preservation which is the farmhouse, barn, silo, and ancillary buildings.

What are the plans for the Wygal Property?

Over the last couple years, Adams Township has been focusing on developing different areas of the park. Projects like the splash pad, pickleball courts, basketball courts, as well as parking and pavilion improvements. As those projects are now completed, there will be a focus on creating a masterplan for the Wygal property. The masterplan may take some time but with input from the Board of Supervisors, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and the Pittsburgh History and Landmark Foundation we are optimistic that a conservation and historical preservation area that meets the expectations placed in the sale of the property so that residents can enjoy the property for man years.
